During
the 6
weeks of
Lent –
and
including
Ash
Wednesday
– St.
Paul’s
Newman
Center
will
tithe
10% of
our
Sunday
Gift
Offerings
to Haiti
Relief
and to
Cross
International
Catholic
Outreach.
You may
also
make a
“direct”
donation
to our
Lenten
project
by
indicating
on the
memo
line
of your
check
“Lenten
Project”
and 100%
of your
gift
will go
directly
to those
in need
in Haiti
and the
Philippines.
The
first
component
of our
Lenten
Project
is...
Haiti:
Earthquake
Disaster
Relief
This
part of
our
project
is to
sponsor
the
shipping
of a
container
of
emergency
relief
supplies
to Haiti
for
immediate
distribution.
The
recent
tragedy
of the
earthquake
in Haiti
cannot
be
ignored.
Haiti is
the most
impoverished
nation
in the
western
hemisphere.
Fortunately
Cross
International
Catholic
Outreach
was
working
in Haiti
well
before
the
earthquake
and
is there
providing
emergency
relief
during
the
disaster
and
recovery.
The
shipment
of this
container
costs
$8,000
and we
hope to
raise
this
amount
before
February
28th, to
expedite
the
shipping
of a
container
of
water,
shelter,
food,
medical
and
other
relief
supplies
to
Haiti.
The
second
component
of our
Lenten
Project
is...
Change a
life in
40 Days
Each
year,
Cross
International
Catholic
Outreach
chooses
a
desperately
needy
program
to focus
awareness
and to
provide
assistance.
Last
year's
tumultuous
typhoon
season
caused
great
need in
the
Philippines.
Cross
Catholic
chose
three
ministries
helping
orphans
and
vulnerable
children
in this
storm-devastated
country
as the
focus of
the 2010
Lenten
campaign.
Many
Filipinos
live in
impoverished
conditions
rivaling
those of
pre-earthquake
Haiti.
transform
the
lives of
poor
orphans
and
vulnerable
children.
